Ice Spice Tears Up After Winning Best New Artist At MTV VMAs
Ice Spice gave an emotional speech as she accepted the award for Best New Artist at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards.
While rocking an all-white tutu dress and diamond accessories, the Bronx rap starlet thanked her supporters and God for her Moonman award on Tuesday (September 12) on the VMAs stage in Newark, New Jersey.

“Y’all, thank you so much,” she said while visibly tearing up. “Thank you MTV. Oh my God, this is so cool. I just want to thank my Munchkins. I love you guys so much. I want to thank my manager James. I want to thank my producer Riot [USA] for making the best music with me.”
She added: “Shoutout to all the other nominees in this category. Shoutout to my label 10K and Capitol for always supporting me. And of course, God. Without God, none of this would be possible. Shoutout the Bronx, period! Thank you guys, I love you so much!”
Ice Spice beat out GloRilla, Kaliii, Peso Pluma, PinkPantheress and Reneé Rapp for the coveted award, which marks her first
This is the sixth consecutive year that a female artist has won in the Best New Artist category. The “Munch” rapper follows Cardi B (2018), Billie Eilish (2019), Doja Cat (2019), Olivia Rodrigo (2021) and Dove Cameron (2022).

Of those names, all but Cardi and Cameron went on to earn Grammy nominations for Best New Artist. Only time will tell whether Ice Spice will follow suit at next year’s Grammys.
The 23-year-old’s VMAs win continues her groundbreaking year and comes shortly after she was crowned Billboard‘s Rookie of the Year for 2023.

“I have put in so much hard work, and it means a lot to be recognized for it and have more than just plaques to show for it,” Spice told Billboard. “I hope to push the genre forward in whatever ways I can, but I know I’ll have a huge impact on the youngins coming up now.”
The outlet gave Ice Spice the award because of her four Top 10 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, which included blockbuster collaborations with Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift.

Back in May, the curly-haired Hip Hop princess broke a record held by Nicki, earning the biggest streaming debut for a female rapper in global Spotify history thanks to her “Karma” collaboration with Swift.
The song, which was released as a bonus track on Swift’s deluxe album Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition), racked up 5.036 million streams on the platform on its first day. That figure propelled “Karma” to No. 5 on the global Spotify chart, making it the top new entry.
